Privacy Policy
This policy describes the information Region Relay handles through its website and map features. The Terms of Service are available here.
1. Information we handle
- Account information: first name, username, date of birth, email address, password credential, and email-verification and account-security status. Passwords are handled by the account system as protected credentials.
- Community content: map pins and their submitted coordinates, titles and details; community line shapes and descriptions; map-correction reports; and optional profile photos. Public contributions can be visible to map visitors as described in the posting controls.
- Private communications: messages sent between accounts and friend and block records. A message history is not erased just by removing a friend.
- Optional contact information: an email address submitted with a map-pin removal request, which moderators can use to follow up if the place is added again. The site does not send an automatic re-add alert email.
- Technical and security information: a website must receive connection information such as an IP address and request metadata to deliver pages. The service also uses a security rate limit that stores a keyed, non-reversible identifier derived from the connection and the action/time, rather than the raw IP address in that rate-limit record. Hosting or network systems may handle request logs; their exact retention period can vary.
2. How we use information
We use account details to create accounts, confirm email addresses, sign users in, maintain profiles, and send password-reset or requested account-security email. Moderators can use an optional contact address on a map-pin removal request to follow up if the place is added again; the site does not send an automatic re-add alert email. We use submitted content to display and operate the map, communicate between users, review reports, and prevent abuse. We use technical information to deliver the site, protect accounts, rate-limit repeated requests, diagnose service problems, and meet legal obligations.
3. Public content and recipients
Public pins and other contributions are shown according to their publication and privacy settings. Public map content may include exact coordinates and the account name or other details included in the submission. Do not put anything in a public field that you do not want visitors to see. Private messages are intended for the participants, but the service is not an encrypted or confidential messaging service.
We use service providers to host and deliver the website and send account email. If you turn on optional map overlays, your browser may contact the relevant government GIS provider for map information. Those providers handle requests under their own privacy practices. The site’s address search uses a local index rather than sending the search to an external geocoder.
4. Location and browser storage
The site does not request your device’s GPS location. It does receive locations that you choose to submit on the map or include in a report. Optional external GIS layers may request a fixed regional map area when you turn them on; this is not a GPS reading.
Essential session and security cookies support sign-in and form protection. Display and map-filter preferences are stored in your browser. The map service worker may cache map resources and data you load on this device for offline use, subject to your browser’s storage limits and eviction rules. You can clear browser cookies and site storage using your browser settings.
5. Retention and account controls
Account and community information is kept while needed to provide the service, maintain published map content, protect users, resolve reports, or meet legal obligations. The current site does not offer a self-service account deletion or message-history deletion control. Removing a friend does not remove prior message history. Some map items can be withdrawn or removed through the available map controls. We do not publish a fixed retention period for every content type or hosting log.
Some public map items can be withdrawn or removed using available map controls. The current site does not provide an in-app privacy request form or self-service account-deletion workflow. For a privacy request or correction, email support@blacksakura.net.
6. Children’s information
Accounts are limited to people age 13 or older. Signup and profile edits enforce that minimum, and accounts without a date of birth showing age 13 or older cannot use map and community features. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will restrict the account and review information for any steps required by applicable law. Do not post a child’s private or identifying information on the public map. A parent or guardian who believes a child’s personal information was submitted may email support@blacksakura.net.
7. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect account and service data. No website or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.
8. Periodic review and updates
This Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service may be reviewed periodically and updated to reflect changes to the service, applicable law, or current guidelines. Periodic review is intended to keep the documents current; it is not a guarantee of legal compliance. The version and effective date above will change when a revision is published, and we will provide additional notice when appropriate or required.
9. Questions
